Gradient Network Airdrop: Riding the DePIN Wave

Let’s explore what Gradient Network is, why it’s attracting so much attention, and how you can participate in the Gradient Network Airdrop.

Recently, the crypto market has been riding a massive wave of DePIN, with numerous projects catching the community’s attention. Among them, Gradient Network stands out as a particularly promising project that’s been gaining significant traction.

The DePIN Wave

DePIN, or Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network, leverages blockchain technology to manage physical infrastructure projects in a decentralized way. Unlike traditional centralized systems, DePIN distributes control across a network of participants, ensuring transparency, efficiency, and security.

This innovative approach aims to transform industries like energy, telecommunications, and logistics, making them more interconnected and efficient.

With Grass being one of the first to blow the whistle, their price has increased significantly from just ~$0.85 (at the time of the initial airdrop) to the ATHs of ~$3.5 (at the time of this article).

Gradient Network

Project Info

Gradient Network is a groundbreaking DePIN platform built on the Solana blockchain, designed to enhance the efficiency of computing resources in the growing AI landscape. This project bridges various blockchains, including Ethereum, Bittensor, and Solana, allowing users to effortlessly access computing power without depending on centralized providers.

The goal of Gradient Network is to establish a decentralized computing ecosystem that preserves user privacy and optimizes resource utilization. It offers cost-effective and accessible computing services, paving the way for advancements in AI technology.

Currently, users can participate in the early stages of the project to earn points, which could lead to future airdrop opportunities, akin to the Grass and DAWN projects.

Co-Founder: Yuan Gao. He is an alumnus of Columbia University, Nanjing University, and the University of Georgia. He has held notable positions including Head of Growth at the Helium Foundation (a DePIN project) and Head of Marketing for the Layer-1 project, NEO.

Investors

Gradient Network has completed its first funding round, attracting notable investors such as Pantera Capital, Multicoin Capital, and Sequoia Capital. However, specific details regarding the amount raised and the valuation remain undisclosed.

Overall, DePIN projects on Solana have garnered strong investments from major funds, with projects like Grass and Dawn already establishing their positions. With the backing of these prominent investors, Gradient Network is poised to become a formidable contender soon.

Although the total funding amount is still to be determined since it was raised recently, the involvement of notable investors such as Pantera Capital, Multicoin Capital, and Sequoia Capital gives us reason to believe it will be a substantial sum.

The Airdrop

The Gradient Network aims to develop decentralized infrastructure by connecting computers through Gradient Sentry Nodes. To receive airdrops, users must become part of the network by installing a Gradient Sentry Node. Here are the steps to get started:

  1. Visit the Project’s Airdrop Page: Access the official airdrop page of the Gradient Network.
  2. Create an Account: Sign up using your Email or Google account.
  3. Referral Code: Use the referral code X8B257 to instantly receive 3000 EXP and a 2% reward boost.
  4. Connect Twitter and Follow the Project: Earn an additional 1000 EXP by connecting your Twitter account and following the project.
  5. Download the Gradient Network Extension: Install the extension to become a Sentry Node.

After installing the extension, you will officially become a Sentry Node for the project. If your status shows “Good,” you’re all set. If it shows “Unsupported,” you might be in an unsupported region or your IP might not be supported.

One potential issue causing this problem could be a VPN. If you’re using a VPN, try turning it off and reconnecting to the extension. To be sure, you can also reset your network IP.

How It Works

Gradient Network calculates points based on the time users spend online, similar to other DePIN projects in the market. The point system works as follows:

  • Online Time: Your Sentry Node earns 0.25 points for every 10 minutes it remains online.
  • Tap Mechanism: Periodically, nodes are randomly connected to check if they can successfully communicate. When two nodes complete a Tap, both receive 0.75 points.
  • Referrals: Invite friends to earn EXP, upgrade your account, unlock higher levels, and receive larger node rewards. When your referred friend stays active for 72 hours, both of you receive 20 bonus points.

Sentry node and Network Architecture

Sentry Node

Also known simply as a Node, the Sentry Node is a critical component of the Pervasive Connectivity Layer, responsible for operating the network. It functions similarly to blockchains that use the Proof of Stake consensus mechanism, ensuring the stability and security of the entire system.

Designed to protect privacy, Sentry Nodes consume very minimal resources (less than 1MB of data per month) and remain efficient even during connection disruptions. Their primary task is to map global connectivity and ensure computing resources are consistently available.

Architecture

Gradient Network is built with a diverse multi-layer architecture aimed at decentralizing cloud computing services:

  • Pervasive Connectivity Layer: This layer ensures all network components can connect. Instead of the traditional client-server model—where a central server handles all user data, making the system vulnerable to disruptions—Gradient Network uses a meshed network model. This model is more decentralized, with no central server, and nodes operate independently. This increases decentralization, and if one node fails, the system continues to function normally.
  • Homogenized Computation Layer: This layer standardizes resources from various sources (such as different machines or systems), making them easier to process.
  • Adaptive Orchestration Layer: This layer manages and ensures that user requests are efficiently processed, maximizing the use of available computing resources within the network.
  • Oracles and Settlement Layer: Built on the Solana blockchain, this layer leverages Solana’s power and flexibility to handle external data (through Oracles).

Roadmap

Gradient Network officially launched on August 18, 2024. While the project has not disclosed specific timelines, it has outlined the following phases:

  • Phase 1: Pervasive Connectivity (Current phase at the time of writing)
  • Phase 2: Homogenized Computation
  • Phase 3: Adaptive Orchestration
